Triethanolamine, ethanolamine, boric acid reaction products - Introduction
Boric acid (H3BO3) and ethanolamine (C2H7NO) and triethanolamine (C6H15NO3) will undergo condensation reactions to produce the corresponding borate ester compounds. These reaction products have the following properties, uses, methods of preparation and safety information:
1. Nature:
boric acid reacts with ethanolamine to form diethanolamine borate (C4H13BN2O3), while it reacts with triethanolamine to form triethanolamine borate (C9H27BN3O6). These compounds are all colorless crystalline solids which are soluble in water and organic solvents.
These borate ester compounds have good thermal stability and can form stable complex compounds, so they are commonly used as starting agents for boron polymers and organic boron compounds.
2. Use:
Borate ester compounds have a variety of applications, mainly for the following:
-as a catalyst: used in polymer processing and organic synthesis reaction in the esterification reaction, condensation reaction, etc.
-as a chelating agent: can be used for metal ion capture and coordination reaction.
-As a flame retardant: added to polymers to improve their flame retardant properties.
-As a dye Auxiliary: Enhance the fastness and color stability of the dye.
-As a cosmetic ingredient: used in the preparation of cosmetics and personal care products.
3. Preparation method:
The reaction of boric acid with ethanolamine and triethanolamine is usually carried out by placing them in a reaction vessel and stirring the reaction at an appropriate temperature for a period of time. After completion of the reaction, the product can be filtered, washed and dried to obtain a pure Boronic ester compound.
4. Safety Information:
Borate ester compounds are relatively safe for humans and the environment under general conditions, but appropriate safety measures still need to be followed:
-Avoid inhaling dust and use protective gloves and glasses for protection;
-Avoid contact with skin and eyes, and wash with plenty of water immediately after contact;
-Operate in a well-ventilated place to avoid inhaling steam or smoke;
-Store in a dry, cool place, away from fire and organic matter.
